→ A very long time ago when Aotearoa was young. There were 3 brothers. One of them was very clever, his name was Maui. Maui wanted to catch the sun to tell him to slow down because they didn’t have enough time to do their stuff like catching fishes and More!.
Maui brothers laughed and said, you can’t catch the sun because he's so powerful, his even so hot you can burn. Maui said, I will use this jaw bone to slow the sun down.
The very next day, Maui told his brother to collect as much harakeke to make a rope to catch the sun.
After they finished, they Travelled to the East side because that's where the sun first rises. After a long walk they find a deep pit. They looked down and they saw the sun sleeping. So they hid behind trees and went into caves. The next morning They were waiting outside the deep pit for the sun to rise. A couple of minutes later the sun finally came up and they Caught The sun. The sun was super angry that he started to roar and throw fire everywhere.
The brothers and other people tried to hold the sun as long as they could. Maui took out the jaw bone and said. You need to move slowly because we always never have time to do our stuff!, said Maui. If we release you, you will move slowly and give us more daylight said Maui.
The sun knew he was defeated, so he said yes and Maui, The brothers and others released him.
The sun finally started to move slowly. Maui and his brothers, plus others were happy because they could now do more stuff!.
